NBA Jam announcer Tim Kitzrow is working with Microsoft to bring back NBA Jam in time for its 25th Anniversary. While he is working with Microsoft, Kitzrow will also need to work with Electronic Arts who currently owns the rights to the franchise.
Kitzrow told ESPN
I can’t speak anything to the specifics, but I can tell you there is movement in the works to get it done for the 25th year. So I’m hoping that we get a remake that does justice to the original.
Not only is he looking to bring the franchise back, he is looking to get the Michael Jordan version of the game which was made specifically for Jordan by Midway and Acclaim and was never mass released. While speaking with Shacknews Kitzrow explained
Mark Turmell and I, we have spoken and it was on Reddit in an interview that he does have the original Michael Jordan/Gary Payton game, that we’re somehow going to find out if there’s a way we can release it. It’s like the Holy Grail, the Michael Jordan one-off-only NBA Jam game. We just have some legal hurdles to go through, but we’re hoping for the 25th anniversary to get that done.
