The launch of the Xbox One X is less than a month away and with it comes 4K gaming. Those who already own an Xbox One and are in the Xbox One Preview Program can start preparing their games for 4K. Microsoft is proving the ability for the Xbox One to download 4K updates in advance of the new console release.
To set your Xbox One up to download 4K updates follow these simple steps.
- Go to Settings
- Select the System tab
- Select Backup & Transfer
- Enable the Download 4K Game Content option
Your Xbox One will start queuing up 4K game updates as they become available. That way, when the Xbox One X comes out you can move your 4K game over and get playing without waiting for updates.
When you update the option, you will get a little information explaining what you are opting in to and making you aware of the increase in download and storage sizes you’ll need to account for.
Automatically download available 4K game content for your installed games. This will let you move games and their 4K content to your Xbox One X using external storage or network transfer.
4K content can be more than twice the size of the original game, so plan your network and storage accordingly.
To download 4K content for currently installed games, go to Settings -> System -> Updates and make sure you’re keeping your games and apps up to date.
It should be noted that while you are downloading 4K updates onto your Xbox One, they won’t be used until you upgrade and move over to the new machine in November.
The Xbox One X launches on the 7th November 2017.
