With HTC recently dropping the price of the Vive by $200 and Microsoft partnering with Acer, HP, Lenovo and Dell to bring Mixed Reality headsets to market for $300, Sony is following HTC by slashing the cost of its PlayStation VR starting on the 1st September with two new bundle offers.
On the PlayStation Blog Sony announced that a new PlayStation VR bundle which includes the headset and PlayStation Camera will retail for $399 (USD) / $499 (CAD) while a PlayStation VR Worlds bundle will set you back $449 (USD) / $579 (CAD).
The PlayStation VR with PlayStation Camera bundle comes in at a price point equivalent to that of just the headset itself meaning you basically get the camera for free.
The PlayStation VR Worlds bundle comes with the headset, PlayStation Camera and two PlayStation Move motion controllers along with a copy of PlayStation VR Worlds to use with it.
Current games on the PlayStation 4 which support VR include titles like Arizona Sunshine, SUPERHOT VR, Tiny Trax, Fantastic Contraption, Dino Frontier, Farpoint, Batman: Arkham VR, Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. Sony also has developers bringing new games to the virtual space with games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, Sparc, Bravo Team and The Inpatient getting the virtual treatment down the line.
Both the PlayStation VR bundle and the PlayStation VR Worlds bundle go on sale on the 1st September 2017. While you don’t need a VR ready PC, you will need a PlayStation 4 to go along with your VR bundles.
There is no word on whether the bundles will become available outside of the US and Canada.
