Nintendo is being sued over the design of the Nintendo Switch by Gamevice, creators of the Wikipad according to Engadget. The company believes that Nintendo also violated a patent used in the Switch’s detectable Joy-Con controllers.
Wikipad is an Android based gaming tablet which, if you squint carefully, has some resemblance to the Nintendo console. Gamevice believes that the similarities between the two are strong enough to show that Nintendo violated patents and is looking for both damages and a ban on Nintendo Switch sales.
Neither Nintendo nor Gamevice have commented on the lawsuit.
The Wikipad was Gamevice’s attempt at a gaming device back in 2012 and started out with grand ambitions including glasses-free 3D and game streaming. When that didn’t work out, the company changed direction and the Wikipad we see now was born. While it did have some success and followers, Gamevice dropped the device in exchange for making add-ons for phones and tablets to give the same gaming experiences.
