Kingdom Hearts 3 has already been confirmed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One but not for Nintendo’s latest console. That doesn’t, however, mean that it isn’t going to happen as Square Enix has not ruled out releasing it on the Switch. Instead, the company confirmed that is was concentrating on completing development on Sony and Microsoft platforms first.
Game director Tetsuya Nomura spoke at the D23 Expo where he told IGN
The Nintendo Switch is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware, but if we lightly say, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll be on the Nintendo Switch,’ I’m sure people will come back and say, ‘But what about the PS4 and Xbox One? We want them out first. Don’t focus on other platforms.’
So for now, we want to focus on what platforms we’ve already announced we’re going to be releasing Kingdom Hearts 3 on. And so after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.
Since the game is being built on Unreal Engine 4, the move from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to add the Switch shouldn’t be that far fetched of an idea as Epic and Nintendo have worked to bring the engine to the new machine.
