Level-5, the company behind Professor Layton has acquired Keiji Inafune’s Comcept, the team behind Mighty No. 9, ReCore, and Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.
Reported by Famitsu and translated by Gematsu, the deal sees Comcept rebranded as Level-5 Comcept. It also means that as a subsidiary of Level-5 it is effectively their Osaka studio. Currently, 15 developers work at the studio although they are looking to recruit more in the future. The studio has said it will work collaboratively with Level-5 CEO and president Akihiro Hino.
Inafune commented on the merger
Although there are plans to close Comcept as it currently stands in the future, I will take responsibility for the titles I’m working on until the end.
Level-5 Comcept’s first game will be an Android and iOS RTS called Dragon Colonies. The game is due to release next year in Japan.
