Some Kickstarter backers of Friday the 13th: The Game also got Tom Savini designed Jason Voorhees exclusive DLC. Of course, making something exclusive means that someone out there is willing to buy it from you and that has happened here too. Some backers have taken their codes straight to the likes of eBay to offload their codes in exchange for hundreds of dollars. It should be noted, that exclusive was available if you backed the project for $65.
If you aren’t familiar with Tom Savini then you probably aren’t sure why people are willing to pay the kinds of money they are for a skin designed by him. The reason is that Savini created the special effects and makeup for the Friday the 13th movies I through IV. He has also directed the 1990 remake of George Romero’s 1968 Night of the Living Dead. This means that the Jason Voorhees skin which you can see below has a pedigree beyond being a developer created exclusive like most games offer.
Of course, not only do you have to be weary when buying digital game codes from non-official retailers as the code may be used or invalid but now you might lose the content anyway. The Official Twitter account for the game warned players about buying the codes from websites and confirmed that they may be banned if they match the code with one that was resold. When they say banned, they don’t mean the code, but your whole account meaning you won’t be able to play the game online.
