Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III had already launched for Windows PC but now it has also been announced that it is heading to Linux and Mac as well.
The Linux and Mac versions of the game will be developed by Feral Interactive while Relic concentrates on the PC and releases updates.
One thing of interest is that while Linux and Mac players can team up online, neither will be compatible with the Windows PC version online. That is something which Relic is looking to address in the future of the game but won’t be there at launch.
Dawn of War III’s multiplayer is cross-platform between Mac and Linux, but not with Windows. We hope to revisit cross-platform multiplayer, and implement that in a future update.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III for Linux and Mac will be available via Steam and the Feral Store on the 8th June for $59.99 / £39.99 / 59,99€. The game won’t be available for pre-loading though so you will need to keep an eye on the stores and pick it up when it goes love at 12pm (noon) UK / 7am Eastern / 4am Pacific.
Luckily, if you own multiple OS systems and you bought the Windows version through Steam, you’ll automatically get the Linux and Mac versions on your account when it releases on the 8th June without having to re-purchase the game.
