A mod that looked to bring one Rockstar created world into another, with Red Dead Redemption being brought into Grand Theft Auto V, is no more. Red Dead Redemption V as it was known was being developed by a team of nine called .White and had a planned Beta for this Summer.
The significance of the mod was that Red Dead Redemption never saw a PC release along with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and, so far, the sequel hasn’t been officially confirmed for PC either. Yes, you can play it on PC if you have a PlayStation Now account but it isn’t exactly the same.
Red Dead Redemption V was going to take the map from the Xbox 360 version of the game, since a PC version of Red Dead Redemption was never released, and brought into the Grand Theft Auto V setup.
A member of .White, Mr. Leisurewear commented on the closure of the project saying that the team had been contacted by someone without saying who. It is likely it was a legal team at either Take-Two Interactive or from Rockstar. Either way, a legal contact to stop what you are doing isn’t generally something to be ignored so the team at .White decided to stop.
I know this is hard pill to swallow, but as you may have noticed we did get contacted , and we sadly have to say we are stopping this project. So thanks guys, we were all so happy to see this, but it isn’t going to happen, sorry
In a post on GTAForums.com the project was outlined in an FAQ post which is still available to read here.
A trailer was planned to be released on the 21st April for the mod but as it went up, it went back down likely for content matching reasons.
Rockstar is currently busy working on Red Dead Redemption 2 which still hasn’t been confirmed for a PC release, just PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Red Dead Redemption is scheduled to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One late this year.
