The Bank of Canada announced a new $10 bill on Sunday which isn’t anything overly special unless you really like new bank notes. What is kind of cool is that whoever set up the announcement is obviously a game fan as they embedded a Konami Code Easter Egg on the site.
When visiting the site, you get a 3D view of the new bank note. Rather that rotate it, if you enter the Konami Code using your keyboard you’ll get a rendition of O Canada, the Canadian National Anthem. This plays on loop while the site makes it rain virtual currency.
If you don’t remember the Konami Code here it is
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A
The Konami Code has been around since its first appearance in 1986 and was used in Konami’s big franchise games like Castlevania, Dance Dance Revolution and Metal Gear Solid.
When discussing why the code had been used in the bank note announcement, the Bank of Canada said
Konami code seemed like a fun way for the web team to celebrate Canada’s [150th anniversary]
