As Twitch is owned by Amazon, it was only a matter of time until the two were merged in some way. Now, that feature is available starting today. You can buy the games you are watching being streamed directly from Twitch and download them digitally.
The new storefront system allows you to buy games without leaving your favourite stream and helps fund your streamer of choice with revenue from the game sale. From each sale, the streamer you are watching earns 5% of the price and is only offered to Partnered streamers that opt into the Twitch program.
You’ll also earn yourself a Twitch Create if you spend more than $4.99 on a game or in-game content which includes digital goods to use on Twitch like emotes, badges, and Bits for Cheering. Also, to celebrate the launch of the new store, each game purchase that gives a Twitch Crate will also give you an entry to win some gaming and streaming gear worth over $500. That event is only open to legal US residents aged 18 or older and runs until the 5th May and you can read about here.
To buy a game and support your streamer, look for the BUY NOW button under the stream and to know your streamer has opted in, look for the “Purchase revenue will be shared with…” text on the right.
To buy games, you’ll need to use your Amazon Account and will initially be billed in US Dollars with more currencies coming later even though you can buy games from anywhere in the world.
Currently, the store is only open to PC and not console games.
