It is that time of year again when every news article you read has to be considered, then considered again. It’s April Fools’ Day. Here we have collected gaming related pranks from around the Internet so you know what is real and what is pulling your leg.
Google – Ms. Pac-Man Goodle Maps
Google has done this one before but here it is again. Using Google Maps, you can play Ms. Pac-Man on your local streets by heading over to https://maps.google.com and clicking the Insert Coin icon in the bottom left of the screen.
So while it is an April Fool’s Day event, it is real and you can play it. It is actually more difficult than the real game due to the road layouts unless you like in Milton Keynes or New York, in which case the grid system will serve you well.
Square Enix – Tactics Alexander
Pitched as a spin-off from MMO Final Fantasy XIV, this actually looks pretty fun. That makes it one of the cruellest forms of April Fools’ jokes as it is something you probably want to be real.
Nintendo – Fire Emblem Battle of Revolution
A new Fire Emblem game would be pretty much welcomed but Nintendo set up this Japanese website for a Nintendo Switch and 3DS game.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX G-Assist
A USB dongle, the GeForce GTX G-Assist brings Artificial Intelligence to your game which is useful if you need to step away from your machine. It will mimic your play style while you are AFK.
Never play your own games again.
Arika – New Street Fighter EX Game
Street Fighter EX developer, Arika has put together a complete trailer for a new entry in the franchise. They also kind of give it away by calling it out as an April Fools’ Day joke in the video description.
Wargaming – World of Tanks Mars Mode
Wargaming brings World of Tanks Console Editions to our favourite martian world, Mars. Including classic style UFO’s, lasers and low gravity, tank warfare hasn’t been so red in decades. Mars mode will apparently run 31st March to the 2nd April covering you know what day.
Again, they gave it away by declaring it a joke in the video description. What is different about this one though, is that you can play Mars Mode right now in World of Tanks on consoles. See, not all jokes are at your expense.
Think Geek – Where’s Barb?
Not gaming but Think Geek is known for making April Fools’ Jokes and occasionally taking them into production if there is enough interest. This year there is the new book, Where’s Barb? Like Where’s Wally/Waldo? you have to find Barbara Holland from Stranger Things.
- Where’s Barb?
- Object-finding puzzle book based on the wildly successful Where’s Waldo? format
- Find the Stranger Things character before the monster gets her
- Perfect if you’re trying to pass the time while your best friend is getting busy with her boyfriend
- Hardcover: 32 pages
- Dimensions: 10.2″ wide x 12.8″ tall x 0.4″ thick
- Oh, wait. We just remembered. She’s at the library.
Rockstar and AMC – Grand Theft Auto the TV series
We wouldn’t say no to a well done Grand Theft Auto TV series or film. AMC and Rockstar know this making the joke even more cruel. From the creators of Breaking Bad, the open world crime fest shows Trevor in his pants passed out on the beach mixed in with action sequences. Check it out below
id Software – DOOM on Floppy Disk
Those of us old enough to remember them, 3.5″ floppy disks were amazing things in everything but the need to keep swapping them out to play games. Now, id Software and Bethesda have DOOM on floppy disk. 33,550 of them to be exact.
This joke plays on our nostalgia and we’d love to see it happen, just because it could.
Blizzard – Overlord Announcer for StarCraft II
That’s right, Overlord gives guidance and explanations of what is going on in you StarCraft II game. It is easier to show you than explain it.
