The Australian Classification Board has made a u-turn after previously ruling that Outlast 2 should not be sold or distributed in the country. At the time, Implied sexual violence was cited as the reason for their decision. Now, though, it seems that the rating board has now revised its decision and given the game an R18+ rating. The decision to give the game a rating basically means that the game will now go on sale in the country.
Even better, Red Barrels did not have to make any edits to the game just to get it rated like has been required for games like South Park: The Stick of Truth. The studio confirmed this in a statement
Outlast 2 has been rated R18+ by the Classification Branch in Australia and will be released 26th April 2017. There will be only one version of Outlast 2 available worldwide.
It isn’t clear why the Australian Classification Board changed their mind and chose to rate the game, it isn’t likely Internet outrage played much into it but perhaps Senator David Leyonhjelm for Australia’s Liberal Democratic party did?
Outlast 2 is available this April for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
