Starting in March, Valve will be increasing the pricing of content sold through Steam across ten countries to comply with new tax jurisdictions.
Steam partners were informed about the change today explaining that the following countries would be affected in March.
- New Zealand – 15%
- Switzerland – 8%
- South Korea – 10%
- Japan – 8%
- Iceland – 24%
- South Africa – 14%
- India – 15%
In April through to July, additional countries would see price hikes
- Serbia – 20% in April
- Taiwan – 5% in May
- Australia – 10% in July
That may not be the end of it either, Valve told the developers
We expect to add other individual countries over the course of 2017-2018, depending on applicable law
So if you live in any of those countries and had an eye on a game, you might want to pick it up sooner rather than later on Steam’s official website.
