Platinum Games’ NieR: Automata is heading to PC at some point in the future and is coming to PlayStation 4 in March. That means that Xbox One owners will miss out on the game which Platinum Games has explained is due to the console’s popularity in Japan.
Producer Yosuke Saito spoke with UK newspaper, the Express
There are currently no plans to release on this platform. The main reason for this is that the Japanese market for Xbox One is not strong, so the decision was made to focus on PlayStation 4 rather than to split our efforts across two platforms. The biggest benefit to developing on one platform is that we did not have to split our time, allowing us to focus more on the quality. It is not about whether one platform is better than the other, it’s that from a development point of view were can devote more time to one platform.
The original NieR did release on the Xbox 360 but there are no plans for NieR: Automata to come to Xbox One at this time.
As Microsoft cancelled Scalebound, we can’t help but wonder if Platinum Games is also doing it as a snub to the Redmond-based company.
NieR: Automata launches for the PlayStation 4 on the 7th March 2017 in North America, 9th March in Europe and 10th March in the UK. A PC version is planned but there us currently no release date other than ‘2017’.
