Blizzard Entertainment has announced on the Battle.net forums that it is shutting down support for a number of games that currently support Windows XP and Vista.
The games that are affected by this move include:
- World of Warcraft
- Diablo III
- StarCraft II
- Heroes of the Storm.
While they didn’t give a timeline they have said
Starting later this year, we will begin the process of ending support for Windows XP and Windows Vista in World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm.
The suggestion to those players still on Windows XP or Vista
After these older operating systems are no longer supported, the games will not run on them, so we encourage any players who are still using one of the older OSes to upgrade to a newer version. We’ll be rolling out this change on a staggered schedule, and will post further notices as we get closer to making the change for each game.
Microsoft officially ended support for both Windows XP in 2009 and Vista in 2012 meaning both OS’ are becoming more vulnerable to security risks, not just for the machine but for the software that runs on it, like Blizzard games.
