Double Fine has announced that the Psychonauts 2 publishing will fall on Starbreeze Studios, the developer turned publisher behind PAYDAY.
We’re really excited to be working with a publisher that has such a strong background in development, it makes them a perfect partner in our eyes — We’re confident this will be a great marriage, and that our game babies will be the most handsomest of all time.
The update is keen to highlight that the backers of the campaign are still entitled to what they have already signed up for, the fact Starbeeze is the publisher doesn’t change the crowdfunding campaign promises.
On the publishing side, Starbreeze will be investing $8 million into Psychonauts 2’s marketing and distribution. For that, it will get 85 percent of the game revenue until those costs are recouped, they’ll then get 60 percent of the revenue after that.
Double Fine retain all IP rights for Psychonauts 2 and the franchise as a whole.
Pyschonauts 2 reached 116% of funding after reaching $3.9 million on Double Fine’s own crowdfunding system, Fig.co
A release date for Psychonauts 2 has yet to be announced.
