UPDATE: It turns out that Nintendo hasn’t dropped the DMCA against Pokémon Evolved, rather another modder has placed the copyright notice against the mod. It is odd in that the other modder does not own the copyright either. We’ll have more as the story goes on.
A mod for Ark: Survival Evolved looked to replace all of the survival games’ dinosaurs with Pokémon and is currently on Steam Workshop. The mod is called Pokémon Evolved and if you want to catch ’em all in Ark, you better move quick as the mod has been hit with a DMCA notice so isn’t likely to remain for long.
While the notice doesn’t mention who submitted a DMCA against the mod, it is likely to be Nintendo who is historically protective of their IP.
The notice reads
Note: A DMCA Notice of Copyright Infringement has been filed on this item. Valve will review the complaint and reach out to the person who posted this item and provide details and information on the next steps.
The notice carries, even more, weight as modder ‘Mystic Academy’ has acknowledged that the models and animations used are directly imported from Pokémon X/Y rather than built from scratch. The only adjustments were made to make the models work in Ark.
Pokémon Evolved has less in the way of survival and more in the way of capturing and riding Pokémon.
