Former Pennsylvania football player and wrestler, Lenwood Hamilton is suing Epic Games and Microsoft because he believes the Gears of War character Augustus “Cole Train” Cole is based on him.
Hamilton says he only realised the likeness after being shown the character by a friend’s son. He likened the experience to being like looking in a mirror.
TMZ has the initial report the claims are laid out as he looks to sue for sales and profits.
The differences go beyond race with both allegedly wearing derby hats, wristbands and a gold tooth. Although there is no sign of the Gears character having a gold tooth.
It isn’t just Epic and Microsoft that the lawsuit goes after either, it also targets Lester Speight, aka Terry Tate who is credited as the voice of Cole Train. According to the claim, Lester Speight worked with Hamilton and his wrestling company where they previously discussed creating a video game character together.
Other similarities involve the fact that Cole Train played Thrashball under the number 83, the same year that Hamilton played American Football for the Philadelphia Eagles.
