Oculus executive, Dov Katz has been arrested according to reports from Seattle-based NBC affiliate KING 5. He was charged in Kings County in Tukwila, Washington on Friday for communicating with a minor for immoral purposes. According to the charging documents, Katz responded to an advertisement posted by an undercover detective on Backpage.com posing as a 15-year-old girl offering sex in exchange for money.
The documents include a discussion between Katz and the detective posing as the underage girl. The discussion starts by the officer claiming to be 19 before admitting to being 15.
Katz: how old are you anyway?
Officer Sudel: 19, u?
Officer Sudel: K, younger girls ok with u?
Katz: Yes. More energy to keep up.
Officer Sudel: Can I be honest with u? I’m new to all this and a little younger than my ad says but I promise u won’t be disappointed.
Katz: How much younger?
Officer Sudel: 15 … I’m sending my pic.
Officer Sudel: Just please don’t say anything ok?
Upon his arrest, Katz told police that he was there to “rescue her and call the police.” The investigators told him that they should have called them first if this was his intent.
His arraignment is set for the 5th January 2017 and bail was set at $125,000.
As Oculus executive, Dov Katz is the head of computer vision and machine learning group at the virtual reality headset company and joined in 2013. The company was bought by Facebook in 2014 for almost $2 billion.
