Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has apologised on the Overwatch forums for how the Mei Winter outfit is classed as a Legendary outfit.
Some more picky players of the MOBA FPS felt that Mei’s new threads didn’t live up to the quality of what should be expected in a Legendary outfit. The costume has also received some backlash for not being that great overall.
To that Kapan posted
Sorry you are disappointed with Mei’s winter skin. We don’t have a specific rule for what makes something Legendary or Epic. We just sort of make a gut call based off of what we think is cool. Coolness is very subjective, and based off of the community reaction it seems like our gauge was off on this one.
Not all players feel this way with some players defending the skin design and requesting common sense when it comes to complaining about things in Overwatch that really matter rather than whether a skin is cool or worthy of Legendary status.
When unlocked, the frosty climatologist can also be encased in a snowman instead of her usual ice block when using Cryo-Freeze to regenerate health.
We thought that was pretty special and we had done it specifically based on community suggestions from months ago when people were speculating that we might have a winter event.
At the end of the post, Kaplan also promises that Mei will get more Legendary options early in the new year.
Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
