Ex-Microsoft engineer, SethBling has created an Atari 2600 emulator using nothing but Minecraft. While the emulation runs incredibly slowly, it does show the 1977 game console running on approximately 2,000 command blocks.
The original Atari 2600 drew frames to the screen at a solid 60fps, SethBling’s Minecraft emulation draws 60 frames every four hours.
Check out SethBling’s video of how he created the emulator and includes som history titbits about the Atari 2600 specifications and limitations. In the video, he shows the reto console versions of Donkey Kong, Space Invaders and Pac-Man
Seth has even made the World and MCEdit Filter downloadable from the YouTube video description in case you want to run it yourself. It even includes a tool which can convert a 4KB Atari 2600 ROMs into block cartridges for the emulator’s Minecraft world state.
