Nolan North had a few choice words for the voice actors union, SAG-AFTRA, who are currently striking against companies like Activision Publishing, Electronic Arts, Insomniac Games, Take 2 Interactive and WB Games to name a few.
After accepting the award and thanking his wife, children, Amy Henning who originally cast him, and the team at Naughty Dog.
He then goes on to say “I’m hearing a lot of talk lately about how Performance Matters, and it does” with #PerformanceMatters being the hashtag the striking voice actors have used to spread the reach of their situation. He then continues
The performance of every designer, every programmer, every artist, every hard working talented person who works at that office [at Naughty Dog], not only Naughty Dog but all the developers that I have worked with, but Naughty Dog in particular because I have been with them for so long.
That performance is so important. They are so talented, so hard working and their performance matters more than mine. That’s important to understand in this day and age, with all the talk going back and forth. Because without their performance, my performance would only not matter. It wouldn’t exist.
Nolan North won the Best Performance Award for his portrayal of Nathan Drake in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
