Blizzard has been hard at work trying to make Symmetra more viable as an Overwatch Hero that people play all the way through an entire round. Now it seems, part of that work is to give Symmetra an option of Ultimate abilities.
Symmetra will keep her teleporter ultimate ability but an optional second ultimate sees her able to deploy a Photon Barrier which is a shield that protects the entire team.
Lead designer Jeff Kaplan discussed the changes in the latest Developer Update which you can watch below.
Kaplan discussed where the Photon Barrier could come in use
Symmetra is going to be the first character in Overwatch to actually have a choice of ultimates. It’s really effective if you’re hanging behind your time and they don’t have somebody like a Reinhardt. Maybe they have a Roadhog and Zarya as their tanks up front, you can send this projected barrier out in front of you and it sort of signals your whole team to … follow with it.
That isn’t the only buffs she is targetted to be getting either. She will be able to place six turrets at once and will have a longer range on her primary weapon. She will still remain within the support class but is able to be more aggressive when the flow of the game calls for it.
The changes are due to be added to the Public Test Realm sometime in the near future before being rolled out to all servers.
Overwatch is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
