The unofficial No Man’s Sky subreddit had been closed by a moderator that felt the hate-filled discussions going on had become too much with all posts purged. Recently, the subreddit was re-opened but the posts remain purged giving the location a clean slate.
Lead moderator /u/r0ugew0lf wrote
It’s become a hate filled wastehole of no actual discussion, It’s not what we intended it to be and I don’t like providing a platform for hate.”
Other moderators tried to sway the decision to close the subreddit but r0guew0lf made the final call and closed the group and purged all of the posts. It is key to note, the No Man’s Sky subreddit was not and is not affiliated with Hello Games in an official capacity, as such, it has no control over how it is run.
The tone of the posts in the subreddit stemmed from the release of No Man’s Sky by Hello Games and players feeling the game did not live up to the hype, or in some cases, felt mislead by pre-launch interviews discussion features that did not manifest when the game launched.
The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority is investigating No Man’s Sky after receiving “several complaints” about the game’s potentially misleading advertising on its Steam page.
I know the past few hours have been confusing. I’ve been reviewing the situation and working with /u/r0ugew0lf to determine the needs of this community and how the admins can help meet them. He’s been an enormous help and I appreciate him working with us during a difficult time. He’s going to take a break and has handed the reins over to me to get the subreddit restarted. I’ve extended invitations to some of the previous moderators to get things started and will likely be needing some additional help.
At the core of things, this is a subreddit and a community centered around No Man’s Sky. I’m asking everyone here to participate in good faith and leave any frustration with the recent situation at the door.
No Man’s Sky is available now on PC and PlayStation 4.
