Calvin Riley was shot and killed by an unknown assailant at Aquatic Park, San Francisco on Saturday night while out playing Pokémon GO.
The incident took place at the Aquatic Park near Ghirardelli Square.
A family friend, John Kirby told KGO-TV that Riley and a friend were playing the AR title when the shooting took place.
From what we know there was no confrontation. There was nothing said back and forth. It was just senseless, just came up and shot in the back and ran away for nothing
Kirby said that Riley and his friend had seen someone watching them from a nearby hill that overlooks the park, however, they did not see the assailant as it was dark and they were focused on the app.
National Park Service spokesman Lynn Cullivan said that investigators believe there are witnesses to the attack as it had happened in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, a busy part of the city.
Sergeant Robert Jansing, a detective with the US Park police, said that the suspect that shot Riley did not take any of his belongings and ran off after the shooting took place.
