SEGA have announced, during Sonic the Hedgehog’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations, that a new 2D platformer called Sonic Mania was on the horizon.
The game will be released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and will feature new zones alongside remixed classic levels with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles!
The collaboration between SEGA, Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games seems to suggest that SEGA has learned from some of its 3D mistakes. The Sonic Mania trailer below confirms that SEGA is taking Sonic back to his origins and a new 2D platformer is what we can expect.
Looking at the trailer, it does indeed seem that SEGA is bringing back what made Sonic the Hedgehog games great.
Sonic Mania is due to release of PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Spring 2017.
