Evolve is no longer available for purchase from Steam ahead of a big announcement although the product page still remains. The removal of the game for purchase coincides with the official website displaying a countdown to tomorrow, 7th July 2016.
Phil Robb Co-Founder/Creative Director at Turtle Rock Studios Tweeted what could be a hint of things to come with the games “biggest, craziest update yet” suggesting the game isn’t going away.

Evolve puts four player hunters up against one player monster in a game that received mixed reviews but mostly positive with a Metacritic of 77/100. The removal of the option to buy the game could potentially signal that the game is going Free-to-Play instead of being a premium product.
Why would Turtle Rock Studios make a AAA title into a Free-to-Play game? Well the dwindling player figures may have something to do with it. Switching to a Free-to-Play model would likely entice more players to jump in and boost the player numbers. Whether that is the news we’ll hear we don’t know yet. We’ll be sure to let you know once the announcement happens though.
Evolve is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are available for sale so it is possible the announcement is purely for the PC version.
