Maxis and Electronic Arts have announced a free update for The Sims 4 Create-a-Sim mode allowing new gender customization options.
The new options allow you to create a Sim in the life simulator where there are no restrictions on which gender can wear clothes of certain types as it was in the past. Also, regardless of gender choice, you can adjust speech style, hair cut and gait meaning over 700 items that were previously gender specific can be used across genders now. Not only do the options open up for newly created Sims, you can take any of your existing Sims into the Create-a-Sim mode and make new choices to give your Sims the lifestyle choices you desire.
The Sims is made by a diverse team for a diverse audience, and it’s really important to us that players are able to be creative and express themselves through our games. We want to make sure players can create characters they can identify with or relate to through powerful tools that give them influence over a Sim’s gender, age, ethnicity, body type and more.
We’ve had a ton of fun exploring how good many of the short hair male hairstyles look on the female Sims, and vice versa. And we’re just getting started checking out how outfits and styles look on totally different body types.
The update will no doubt be hoping to bring more of the real world in to its gameplay and giving players full control of their Sims 4 worlds and Sims just like they have the choice in their own lives to be who they want.
While the addition may be controversial to some, it is a feature of the franchise which is a brave and welcomed addition to the life simulator.
