Ubisoft is looking to build on on of its biggest franchises to the big screen with a Tom Clancy’s The Division movie. Sources close to the matter told Variety that Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast to star in the film as well as act as a producer.
In the video game, New York is hit with a variant of small pox virus put on bank notes during Black Friday, the city then falls to gangs and a handful of survivors. It is then up to you as part of the second wave of The Division agents to clean up, build up the Strategic Homeland Division and find out what happened to the first wave.
It isn’t clear whether a The Division movie will follow the same plot lines or whether it will build on the concept and be based elsewhere.
The Division will be Gyllenhaal’s second Ubisoft movie after starring in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which didn’t fare the critics too well reaching just 36 on Rotten Tomatoes. The Division has potential to be better though as the story could feasibly have originated out of Hollywood in the first place.
The Division represents Ubisoft’s fastest selling new IP breaking all previous records. Tom Clancy’s The Division is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
