Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo NX console will release in March 2017, later that the Christmas launch originally expected.
Nintendo’s choice on release is an unusual one as it is missing out on the all important Christmas sales that a late year release will bring but it does fall in to the current financial year.
While the codename for the machine is known as the Nintendo NX, it is not known whether the name will stick when the machine reaches us or whether it will carry the Wii name.
Reporting a 24 billion yen ($216m, £147m) loss for January to March the company has deepening losses for the same period last year. At the earnings briefing, Nintendo also confirmed four more smart phone games as it looks to spread out into the new market. They also confirmed that the production of the Wii U would end by March 2018.
Expect to see more on the NX in June at E3 this year.
