Riot, developer of League of Legends has sank a massive statue of one of the games Champions, Nautilus as part of an artificial reef project.
The idea emerged from Ocean Week 2015, when League of Legends players from the Oceanic server were given a year long task of simply winning games and earning points as the games’ sea-themed champions including Nautilus and Fizz. The accumulated points built to a total that would allow for the construction of the artificial reef. The players that contributed significant amounts of points had their names put on the statue.
The Nautilus statue now resides at the bottom of Moreton Bay, off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
Over the next few years, the ocean will reclaim Nautilus, inviting all sorts of sea creatures to move in. The names of the summoners that made this happen are inscribed on a plaque, which will eventually be washed away by time.
