Nintendo’s Miitomo app has been a big success in Japan reaching over a million downloads in just three days after launching on the 15th March.
Now, the West has received its own release date of Nintendo’s first real foray into the smart phone market. Miitomo will be releasing on iOS and Android on the 31st March.
Miitomo will launch on Thursday in the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.
Nintendo has described the app as a “free-to-start social experience.” In the app you create your own Mii character and answer some questions about yourself. That information is then exchanged with your friends’ Mii characters. This exchange of information is what Nintendo hopes will spark other conversations between friends due to revealing otherwise unknown information about yourself to your network of friends.
Free-to-start is Nintendo’s name for Free-to-Play which Nintendo feels is misleading as some F2P titles are only free up to a point at which time you will need to pay to proceed. Free-to-start means that while you can use the app for free initially, there will be in app purchases down the line.
You will need a Nintendo account to use Miitomo, so if you don’t have one but feel like you will want to try the app you can head over to www.miitomo.com and create your free account before the app releases.
