Warner Brothers has cancelled 5th Cell’s Scribblenauts: Fighting Words and in doing so, 45 staff were let go.
The news broke as Lead Animator Tim Borrelli Tweeted about it mentioning how he had been laid off in the first round of redundancies with a second wave taking place yesterday. In total 45 of the staff were released from their contracts.
RIP 5TH Cell. If anyone is looking for kickass artists, programmers, designers, QA, IT, and more, let me know. pic.twitter.com/xwMZVF76Wb

The fate of 5th Cell itself received conflicting news with Borrelli saying the studio had closed followed by studio boss Jeremia Slaczka releasing a statement saying that the developer is still alive.
Scribblenauts: Fighting Words was in development for iPhone and iPad since the back end of 2014.
5th Cell also tried their hand at crowd funding via Fig and attempted to raise $500k for Anchors in the Drift, a free-to-play RPG. The campaign fell short and only reached $107k in funding when time run out.
We hope that those affected by the lay offs find their feet in other positions around the industry or are able to pursue another avenue with all the success that could be hoped for.
