Dead Island 2 will now be developed by Sumo Digital according to the franchises publisher, Deep Silver.
On the announcement, Koch Media CEO Dr Klemens Kundratitz explained the decision on the choice of developer
Sumo showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas and an excellent, vision that was aligned with our own.
It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them. We will reveal more details at a later stage, but for now I’d like to say that we are obviously super excited about the progress that we are making with them.
Sumo Digital COO Paul Porter spoke to the deal:
It’s an honour to be charged with the evolution of such an important franchise in Deep Silver’s catalogue. We’re looking forward to exceeding fan expectation with an ambitious design that we’re confident will take bone-crunching, visceral, zombie action to a whole new level.
Previously, Dead Island 2 was being developed by Yager. However, in July 2015 Deep Silver chose not to use their services because the two company’s “respective visions of the project fell out of alignment.”
There is no concrete release date for Dead Island 2 but it was previously looking at a 2016 release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For more details, check out the Official game website.
