Grifball is to make its way on to Halo 5: Guardians playlists as part of the Hammer Storm update which is available later this month..
In the game mode, the objective is to get the Grifball, an explosive ball, to the opposing teams base to explode it. Trying to stop you are players with gravity hammers and energy swords. While carrying the ball, you are unable to use other weapons but you can melee players with the ball or drop it to then use another weapon.
For those not up on the history of Grifball, the game mode started as a community created game-type made by Burnie Burns of Rooster Teeth, home of Halo based Red vs Blue. In Season 4 of Red vs Blue, Sarge was taking shots at Grif, who he hates, with a sniper rifle and can be heard exclaiming “This is the best game since Grifball!”
Originally available in Halo 3, the community created game mode appeared in Halo: Reach, Halo 4 and now Halo 5: Guardians as a fan favourite.
Halo 5: Guardians is available globally now exclusively on Xbox One.
