Samsung is hitting the VR market hard, by offering its Gear VR for free to anyone who pre-orders their Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge phones.
With HTC and Valve announcing that the Vive will cost $799 and the Oculus Rift coming in at $599, Samsung is looking to gain an early market share of the VR market by taking a loss against its VR hardware.
If you want to get a Gear VR and have an interest in the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, you have until the 18th March to place your phone order. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge enjoyed 20 million pre-orders, if a fraction of that order the S7 or S7 Edge then it will put the electronics manufacturers VR in a dominant starting position.
If you miss that window of opportunity, you can already pick up a Gear VR separately for $99.99, well below its competitors although you will need a Samsung Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge to use the VR device.
