Ubisoft have announced that due to player feedback on Unity and the plans for a movie, there will be no fully fledged AAA Assassin’s Creed game in 2016.
As well as thanking and praising the teams involved in making Assassin’s Creed over the years, the announcement about there being no new version this year reads:
This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate takes the franchise to London and is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now.
The Assassin’s Creed movie hits cinemas on the 21st December and stars Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender as the lead Assassin. Ubisoft previously released teaser images from the set including an Abstergo business card with functional email and phone number on it.
