A group known as Phantom Squad has vowed, through a series of Tweets, to take both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live offline starting Christmas Day for a week straight. To do this, they’ll be using the same method used by The Lizard Squad previously, by overloading the servers using a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack.
The group claims they were also behind the outage experienced at Reddit on Thursday where the site showed it was under “extreme load”.
We are going to shut down Xbox live and PSN this year on christmas. And we are going to keep them down for one week straight #DramaAlert

When responding to questions of why they would do such a thing, their response wasn’t political but rather that there is no cyber security to prevent them from doing it.
I get asked a lot on why we do this? Why do we take down PSN and Xbox Live? Because cyber security does not exist.
