Electronic Arts has announced that Darkspore, one of Maxis’ Emeryville titles will shutter the game servers on the 1st March 2016.
The announcement came on the Official forums and reads
1st December 2015: Today, we are announcing that we will be closing the doors on Darkspore, effective March 1st, 2016. It’s been a great run and we hope that you have enjoyed your time with Darkspore. While it can be hard to say goodbye, keep in mind there are tons of awesome games available for free on Origin. Enjoy 48-hours of fun with Game Time titles such as The Sims 4 and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare or download the latest Origin On the House release and add it to your library.
There is always something great to play on Origin and we hope to see you in another game very soon!
If you never played Darkspore, imagine League of Legends with Spore kinds of customization in a single-player and 4-player co-op Campaign or in a PvP setting.
Darkspore has not been available to purchase for over a year from EA’s own store front, Origin. However, it has been possible to find copies on the shelves of some retailers or in bargain buckets. As a multiplayer title that relies on game servers to function, the shut down means the game will no longer work after the 1st March 2016.
Darkspore was available for both PC and Mac and originally launched back in April 2011 to confusing marketing which had many believe it was an add-on to Spore. Instead it was a standalone title in a totally different genre to its evolution simulator brother.
