Game retailer GameStop won’t be unlocking its doors on Thanksgiving this year according to a statement provided to BlackFriday.fm. Instead the physical goods retailer is giving its employees the day off, which is nice.
Mike Buskey , Executive Vice President of GameStop said
We believe strongly that our customers and associates should have the opportunity to spend the Thanksgiving holiday relaxing with family and friends. We know this is in stark contrast to what many other retailers are doing, but we are taking a stance to protect family time during this important holiday.
This change of mind regarding family may have occurred after public outcry last year when retailers including Wal-Mart and Macy’s opened alongside GameStop.
Not to miss out on the sale of a used game though, GameStop is rumoured to be opening at 5am on Black Friday. So for those who prefer their disc copies of games you’ll have to look elsewhere on Thanksgiving to grab your holiday gaming bargain.
