The GRIP Kickstarter campaign has come to a premature end as the campaign was closed by developer Caged Element, it isn’t the end for GRIP itself though.
GRIP was campaigning to raise $657,000 (approximately half a million dollars US) to bring the racer to PC and PlayStation 4.
In the closing announcement posted on the campaign, the announcement read
Yes, we realized a while ago (as did many of you) that things were not looking positive for reaching our funding goal. That said, we continued to push. We released a new action-packed trailer. We did interviews. We tweeted, emailed and posted everywhere we could. Sadly, we just did not receive the exposure we needed to maintain the momentum after you all gave the campaign such a fantastic start.
Instead of trying to release development funds through Kickstarter, GRIP will instead be making its way to Steam Early Access no later than the 30th November and the team have opened pre-orders for a Steam Early Access code.
As the game will be going to Steam Early Access, it covers what will be happening to the PC version of the title. However Caged Element didn’t give any details about what the fate of the PlayStation 4 version is. Will it depend on how well the PC version does? Is it indefinitely on hold? Is it cancelled or is it still in development and launch as expected on the Sony platform. Only time will tell.
