Two men have been arrested at the Pokémon World Championship in Boston, MA after making comments about “killing the competition” via social media.
Kevin Norton, 18, and James Stumbo, 27 drove to the event from Iowa and were officially arrested on Friday, 21st August at a hotel near the Pokémon World Championship event after police executed a search warrant on their vehicle where they found 12-gauge Remington shotgun, one DPM5 Model AR-15 rifle, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and a hunting knife.
Neither Norton nor Stumbo were able to provide documentation for the weapons.
The alarm was raised prior to the event after Stumbo posted a picture of his vehicle to a Pokémon Facebook page, with the weapons laid out on the bonnet. When another user wished him luck, Stumbo replied: “With killing the competition?”.
Boston Police waited at the Pokémon World Championship venue and took the pair into custody before they were able to enter the event, they were released but their vehicle was seized while the police obtained a search warrant. After finding the weapons, Norton and Stumbo were taken into custody and officially charged.
