Epic has started advising users of a range of forums under its control that a recent security breach has occurred on multiple Epic Games forums.
Forums that have been compromised are
- UDK (Unreal Development Kit)
- Infinity Blade
- Gears of War
- Multiple Unreal Tournament games
Forums covering Unreal Engine 4, Fortnite and the new Unreal Tournament are reported to be unaffected.
Epic has announced that an unknown source had gained “unauthorized access to usernames, email addresses, passwords, and the date of birth provided at registration.”
The email that Epic is sending out reads
We apologize for the inconvenience this causes everyone. To further understand what’s happened and prevent it in the future, we’re working with a computer security firm to identify the nature of the compromise. We will report further information on the forums when they reopen.
It is possible that any information stored or sent by you using the forums may have been accessed. Since this is a public forum, we do not collect or maintain financial information, but we advise you to be alert for suspicious email such as phishing attempts.
It is recommended that users of the forums change their passwords as soon as possible including any sites that use the same email/password combination. We recommend using a secure password system like LastPass so you don’t use an easy to guess password or use the same details across multiple sites.
