Gamer and YouTube hit, Felix Kjellberg more commonly known as PewDiePie earned $7m / £4.5m / 63m SEK in 2014 according to Swedish news outlet Expressen.
Kjellberg commands 37 million followers on YouTube, that is more than One Direction and Taylor Swift, as he records his reaction to Lets Play videos and posts them up on the video sharing site.
Expressen had looked at dividends paid by Kjellberg’s companies to work out how much he had earned during 2014.
Earning this much money from YouTube has brought out some who critisise the YouTuber, in response to their comments Kjellberg said
I still spent far more money on charities than anything I’ve ever spent for myself. I make more than I need from YouTube. With that freedom, but also to respect my fans for making that possible, I don’t end up doing many endorsements.
PewDiePie hasn’t commented on the Expressen article but in 2013 he did confirm that by July he had made roughly $4 million.
Not everyone can make millions from YouTube, most can’t even make a self sustaining living but there are a few self made millionaires from YouTube of which PewDiePie is one of them, TheFineBros, Smosh, elrubiusOMG and Jenna Marbles make up a handful of others.
However you look at it, these YouTubers have worked just as hard, in some case harder, than most people will in their day jobs to make their channels a success and bring in the viewers and mass following usually associated with TV and movie stars.
