When Valve opened up the Steam Workshop yesterday to allow modders to charge for their creations they probably didn’t expect the kind of reaction that they got. There is already a Change.org petition with over 25,000 signatures urging Valve to change their plans.
While Valve reflects on the feedback, Chesko’s Fishing Mod for Skyrim has been voluntarily pulled after it emerged the mod used another modders idle animations. When asked whether he had permission to use the animations the creator of the animations, Fore spoke up
No, he has not. And making money with mods is totally against my attitude. It’s the end of a working and inventive modding community.
Chesko responded saying he was unable to ask for permission due to NDA’s in place
I would like to make it clear that I have been under a non-disclosure agreement for over a month, and was unable (not unwilling) to contact others. I asked Valve specifically about content that requires other content, and was told that if the download was separate and free, it was fair game.
Chesko confirmed that the animations were not vital for their mod but actually opted to pull the mod and refund those who had purchased it.
