A gamer living in Long Beach, New York was swatted by 60 police officers and emergency teams including an ambulance after receiving an emergency call about a possible hostage situation.
The police ultimately concluded that there was no hostage situation and that it was all a hoax attributed to a 17-year-old who happened to beat another player in a round of a Call of Duty title.
The caller has not been identified but Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney told CBS New York that they took the call “very seriously.” and that it was “a tremendous waste of taxpayer resources.”
Over the weekend, a gamer streaming live on YouTube was swatted in New Jersey after a report that someone at the address had stabbed a woman and had hostages, again police determined it to be a hoax.
This swatting was captured on camera and is available to see on YouTube the moment the armed police arrived and searched the premises.
