Nintendo has announced that it is teaming up with Japanese mobile firm DeNA to bring Nintendo titles to mobile phones and tablets.
Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata confirmed that Nintendo will be handling the game development while DeNA will be providing back-end services and server knowledge to support those games.
DeNA will also be working with Nintendo on the replacement for Club Nintendo and will be a cross platform system working on PC, mobile, tablet, 3DS, Wii U and Nintendo NX.
The new membership service will include multiple devices and create a connection between Nintendo and each individual consumer regardless of the device the consumer uses. This membership will form one of the core elements of the new Nintendo platform [NX] that I just mentioned
Don’t expect Pokemon on mobile though as Iwata also confirmed that Nintendo is not considering ports of existing games, but rather new experiences developed for and more suited to mobile devices.
As part of the partnership agreement, Nintendo will acquire 10 percent of DeNA, while DeNA will pick up 1.24 percent of Nintendo.
