Bryan Shannon, an artist at the late SimCity developer Maxis Emeryville has taken to Patreon to fund creation of buildings he will create for Cities: Skylines.
Shannon has already released two buildings for use in Paradox’s city builder called “Coal Power Plant 01” and “Down-n-Out Burger”, a take on US burger chain, In-n-Out Burger.
In the Patreon pitch, Shannon explains he enjoys making content for Skylines which runs in Unity 5 and outlines the process and highlights that he is doing this while looking for another position within the games industry.
Usually, a building takes about 15-30 hours to generate depending on the size and the complexity. This is everything from models, textures, UV’s and actual game integration. This is a significant amount of time taken out of my weeks that I could be looking for a job.

Meanwhile, on the Paradox forum, as the game passed the 500k units sold mark the team highlighted some up coming bug fixes
Top of the list is the following:
- Black screen on start-up
- Grey Load/New Game button
- Save issues (corrupted saves, saves not saving, cloud not working properly)
- Poor performance on high end computers (mostly Linux)
There are also gameplay-related issues Paradox and developer Colossal Order is keeping an eye on:
- Commercial demand possibly being “killed” by parks and rec
- Potential traffic AI issues/improvements
- Cause/effect for workers getting to their jobs
Although there appears to be no word on the game defaulting to integrated video chipsets when a more powerful dedicated graphics option is available that cause laptops to “lag” which has sprung up on the Steam reviews section.
