Does resolution matter in gaming? That question has resurfaced after the data crunching survey company Nielsen recently conducted a survey to find out why gamers had purchased their platform of choice. PlayStation 4 owners raised better resolution to the top of their reasoning, Xbox One pushed Branding to the top and Wii U players opted for fun factor. Unfortunately Nielsen didn’t cover PC in the survey.
The survey was targeted in two waves, the first between 7th November and 12th November 2014. Then the second a couple of months later, from 22nd January to 27th January 2015. Demographically, wave one consisted of around 2,000 teens and adults aged over 13, along with 400 kids aged between 6 and 12. The second wave consisted of an additional 2,000 person combined of teens and adults aged over 13.
GameSpot did a blind game test between PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in their show, Reality Check. Running the test on three cross platform titles; Far Cry 4, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Assassin’s Creed Unity the test group of 6 people showed a pattern but due to sample size, isn’t comprehensive.
